Around this time each year, the West Memorial Homeowners Association (HOA) starts using fogging techniques to control the mosquito population. In 2022, the West Memorial Municipal Utility District (MUD) decided to increase the frequency of fogging in the area by adding two more days to the HOA's schedule. This decision was made in hopes of reducing the number of mosquitoes in the area, and as part of their ongoing partnership, the HOA and the MUD collaborated to make it happen. However, the types of products that can be used for mosquito control in subdivisions are regulated by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), and only a limited number of companies are authorized to use approved products for this purpose. To carry out the fogging, the MUD hired Cypress Creek Pest Control, and they began fogging the subdivision on March 17, 2023.
